2016 was quite a year for TV shows, in fact, it was probably the best in a long time. The greatest Korean drama, in a long while, that had ever went on broadcast was aired in early 2016. It was the greatest as there were many factors of the drama that separates it from all other dramas. It was a drama, the only one ever, where every single character was loved, from the main to the cameos to the extras, and heck, even the antagonists were adored. The only one where the plot strayed from the typical rich heir and poor servant, hate at first sight that later turns to forbidden love, tragic nice guy second lead that stupidly falls for the main lead girl who always chooses the cold-hearted main lead guy, evil stepmothers that can’t accept anything poor, jealous ex-girlfriends going into illegal means to get at the main lead girl, and secrets that take forever- or actually, more like 20 episodes- to uncover. The only drama where the romance was mature and not high schoolish and drama-like, where both the guy and the girl were understanding and respecting of each other and their careers or life situations. It is… the one and only Descendants of the Sun!!! The drama was a major hit in Korea and gained immense popularity all across Asia and even into the Western countries. It was sold for $250,000 per episode to China (meaning a total of $4 million!), the highest that a KDrama has ever been sold to the country. This was later beaten by the dramas Uncontrollably Fond and Scarlet Heart: Ryeo, though that is a different story because those two dramas were disappointing. Overall, most kdrama addicts would say Descendents of the Sun was the greatest drama of 2016, or even, of all time.

Just as 2016 was a year of great and unique dramas, 2017 is expected to bring along the same. Saying that…Attack on Titans Season 2 is coming out!!! It's coming out in April of 2017!!! Back in 2013, the anime swept everyone, even non-anime fans, off their feet. After the last episode of the first season ended, everyone asked, “Is there a second season? It's not ending like that, is it? When is the second season coming out? Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?” Every single day, fans waited in anticipation for any news of a sequel to that would match the amazingness of the the show. A year passed before rumors surfaced of a second season, but it wasn't until another year that it would be confirmed that a second season was actually coming out. Fans and casual watchers alike waited day after day after day for an announcement of the when the show would be broadcasted, and all were disappointed when it was announced that there would be delays. Now finally, it has been announced that the second season would be airing April of 2017, 4 whole years after the first season was aired! And a trailer actually came with it, too!! Now we must start a countdown to the day that the long-awaited show becomes released.

Every night-or sometimes every week-millions of people around the world tune in to watch their favorite TV show(s). Whether it's an action-packed show with a death in an episode or a romance-comedy one with a bunch of cliches, fans would always be waiting anxiously for a new episode, jittery to know what would happen next in the show. Why do people watch these TV shows so religiously? Why are fans so dedicated and willing to wait so much just for some forty five-ish minutes. Mikayla Tyler, a junior at Academy at Palumbo, said, "Well, it is a sort of like a break from our boring, everyday, lives that are just all full of schedules." Every single day, people wake up and go to school or work-or for others, it may to wander around doing whatever they need to to pass the day- do what they have to do or what they're told to do, eat our meals, then do more work, then go home and eat some more and do some more work, and then go to sleep. If you are lucky or have a bunch of time and money, there may be some fun, memorable events in your day that keeps you going. However, for those that have no such luck, time, or money, they can only rely on virtual entertainment, that is TV shows. These shows allow the viewers to vicariously live through the characters. They are able to experience the same adrenaline that the character feels, the kind that they wouldn't be able to in their uneventful lives. They would cringe and squeal when a romantic scene occurs or scream and cry when a character's lover or family dies. These TV shows give a sort of excitement in the viewers' dull and repetitive life.

What about viral videos? What makes a video viral? Why do people like them so much? Jane Wu, a junior at Academy at Palumbo, thinks that "it can be viral because the video is unique. People have talents that are rare." When asked what can make a video viral, she said, "I feel like music can make a big impact because it can get people's attention and motivate them to keep watching." People generally watch these sort of videos for a laugh because it's something that is usually not seen often. Usually, when they watch it and feel it to be provocative, they would share it with their friends. Those friends would share it with more people, and that goes on and on until literally everyone has seen it. People would then start copying the video. For example, when PPAP first became viral, everyone were making parodies of it and singing it whenever they had a chance. After a while, say a week or two, the video would start to get annoying and people would get pissed whenever it plays. After a while, the viral video would become buried by new viral videos; people would forget about it all until they see, say, a gif on social media or something like so. The life of a viral video is generally really short, lasting less than a month before it dies away, allowing new videos to become viral and die, and on and on and on again.
