Love. What is it exactly? Not the textbook definition, but what? As a teenager we often think we are in love with our significant others or our favorite celebrity, but honestly what is it? Who can say what is or is not love? I personally think that love is the most ugliest and horrendous form of vulnerability that exists among the human race. It is a form of losing some of yourself and to someone. Being in love is like giving someone a bow and arrow, pulling back and hoping that they just won’t let go.. But if they do? Is the question we often ask ourselves. And that is the ugly side of the love spectrum we have either experienced or will experience one day. To be in love is to willingly give a part of yourself so personal that can not be taken back regardless of if they let go of that arrow you so blindly trusted them with and there would be nothing you could do about it. I do not like to think of myself as a romantic or anything but i like to think of all the great realities in the universe and one of them seems to be that falling in love with something or something is a great way of putting yourself in great danger.
Someone once asked me what is worse emotional pain or physical pain.. My response was that without a doubt emotional pain is definitely the worst thing you can possibly feel ever and I will explain why. If I were to fall off of a motorcycle or get stabbed in the leg I can always go to the doctor to get pain medicine and a comfy hospital bed at the emergency room. On the other hand, I do not know any infirmary that can mend a broken heart, a broken spirit or hurt feelings. Think about it, any modern technology that we have in today’s hospitals can fix your aches and pains but none can even begin to fix the problems that “love” brings with it. From personal experience, I can say that there is no consoling a broken heart. No amount of words of encouragement, ice cream, music or movies can make you feel better. No amount of medicine can make you forget. Believe me. It is probably the longest ‘healing process’ one can endure.
To be frankly honest, it is not better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. That’s like saying it is better to have jumped off of a building and missed the cushion than to never have jumped. Sounds ridiculous right? Exactly. You’re better off never experiencing love if it’s just going to end ugly. Although, before it goes sour, love is one of the most exhilarating, confusing and happiest feelings of pure ecstasy in the entire world. Better than anything you have ever felt ever, you’re happy all the time for no reason and no outside force can make you feel anything less. It’s honestly a beautiful warm and awesome thing… that is before it shows its ugly side.
