When I was a kid, I used to watch so many movies and TV shows about high school and what it was like. I was excited for highschool, I thought we would have dances and pep rallies, talking to my friends practically the entire day, and football games that were insane. But the reality is that it's nothing like the movies, at all actually.
All of the things you saw on TV, the movies you watched, The Breakfast Club, The Mean Girls, none of it is realistic, aside from that Burn Book in Mean Girls, somebody in this school probably has one.. And you're probably in it. But did you ever realize that they basically never went to class? Seriously, they either hung by a locker or were in the bathroom, and they would just be talking. About a boy, he-said she-said, some girl that decided to wear a dress when it's like -12192 degrees outside, all that. And I don't know about you, but I've never gotten the chance to just chill all day and talk about whatever. Once that bell rings I'm off to my next class, and usually i'm on the 1st headed to the 5th, so there's no time to waste. Do you really think i'd have time to see my friend in the halls and actually be able to stop and chat with them instead of just saying "Hey!" and keep it moving? That we could actually have a conversation and then be like "Well i've gotta go, see ya." No, once that bell rings, you're late and a lot of teachers really hate lateness, trust me. Nothing is more embarrassing than when you walk into a class late and all eyes are on you like it's the second coming of Jesus.
I've always wanted to have nice high school, a place that i wouldn't mind spending 8 hours in. With food that doesn't look like someone chewed it up and spat it out, or hallways that don't smell like foot fungus and farts, and maybe bathrooms that were clean, had toilet paper, and some damn soap, maybe some trashcans so the nasty little gross girls stop putting their monthly stuff (if you know what i'm sayin) in the weirdest places for you to find unexpectedly (ladies holla if you hear me now.) Or seats in the lunchroom that aren't about to break when you haven't even sat down yet, just all in all a clean school.
“I got my hopes up, just to let them be brought down,” says Maria Leonetti, “I thought high school was gonna be a cool, fun experience, but to be honest it’s just a big stress ball in my life.” A lot of people believed that high school was going to be at least close to the movies or tv shows, because if they weren’t, why would it be acceptable on TV? The truth is, is that it is for aesthetic. They spice it all up to make it look nice, and dramatic. “In all three of the years i’ve been in highschool, i don't have one good memory from highschool, that i’d actually go on to tell my grandchildren.” says Macie Undzinski.
