You may have heard of Fifth Harmony. One of the most popular girl groups of 2016. The award winning vocal band have been praised by many other celebs for their amazing vocals and challenging dance moves that they pull of eloquently. The group is composed of 5 girls- hence the band name- ages varied from 19-23 and their names are Normani Kordei, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane, Ally Brooke and Camila Cabello. These girls are known for using their platform to get a message out to young women that “It’s okay to be you and you are beautiful.” However, even though the girl group themselves promote positivity and unity, some of their fans do not. In fact, the fans are split up into two groups: Harmonizers, who are fans of the girl group as a whole, and Camilanizers, who only favor Camila Cabello. Camila’s fans go far to “protect” their idol. They also have a habit of crossing the line. Specifically, earlier this year. One member of the group, Normani Kordei, referred to her(Cabello)band mate as “quirky” in a solo interview and Camila’s fans attacked. Racial slurs were thrown at Normani and she was forced to take a month’s break from Social Media. Recently, news has spread about the girl group that some have rejoiced about and some have cried about. Camila Cabello has left Fifth Harmony, leaving the once band of 5 to a band of 4. There are many theories behind Camila’s decision to leave. One theory is that she wants to be a solo artist. While being in Fifth Harmony, Camila also ventured out into a solo career, collaborating with artists such as Shawn Mendes and Machine Gun Kelly. All of her collaborated songs have reached the top 20 and just recently her song with Machine Gun Kelly soar to the number one spot on the Itunes charts. Camila’s solo success is what others believe caused her departure. Some fans are happy about her leaving claiming she was problematic and others are upset claiming that the girl group will never be the same. Another speculation on Camila’s leaving is that she was forced to leave. I mean, who would willingly leave one of the biggest girl groups the world has seen since Destiny’s Child? This speculation is fueled by the fact that a day before her departure, Fifth Harmony performed as a whole and they all appeared to happy. Also, statements were released from the Fifth Harmony Facebook account stating that Camila has been unreasonable amongst other things but these statement were contradicted when Camila herself wrote a letter and posted it to her Instagram (@camila_cabello) claiming that she had no idea that she was leaving the girl group and that she will support her former band mates and continue to achieve a solo career. Shortly after the emotion filled statement was released, the other members released the same statement on all of their Social Medias, that many claim was written by their management, backing up the claims made on their Facebook account also adding that they new about Camila’s departure since November and that they all had countless discussions begging her to stay but she refused. If this eventful day couldn’t get any more full, a audio was leaked of Lauren Jauregui crying saying that the girls are “being worked like slaves and see nothing in return,” this tear jerking audio, some believe is old, caused the fans to come together to create hashtags such as #FREEFIFTHHARMONY and #SYCOYOUREDEAD (Syco is their record label, run by Simon Cowell.) Many fans side with the fact that Camila was forced to leave, the reason unknown, while others say she left on her own to follow after Zayn Malik (former member of one of the biggest boybands in the world, One Direction) and attempt to reach even half the success she did while in a girl group. The real reason is unknown.
